The City

Don't get excited, Lindsay, it's not The Hills spin-off; I'm talking about San Francisco. :) The day before we left, we decided that we'd brave the clouds and take a chance on a decent afternoon/evening in the city. We B.A.R.T.ed in again and took the street car to Pier 39. If you know Dan, he LOVES the claw game and actually wins stuff all the time! So, when we saw the Giant Claw Game (Bria was freaking out) they decided to test their luck. Even though they didn't win anything, it was so fun to see Bria (and Dan) so excited.
When we asked Matt what he was really wanted to eat, since it had been a couple years since he'd been to San Fran, he said, "Well what I really want... is Bubba Gumps." So, the uncles entertained Sof while we were waiting for our table.
Because it's a bit pricey, we rarely get to go to Bubba Gumps. But, since we were celebrating Matt's return, it warranted such a splurge. If you haven't been, the signs on the table signal the servers to keep coming back or turn it over (Stop Forrest Stop) so they know that we don't need anything. Bria kept ours guessing.
Don't you love going to a shrimp place to get a pizza? Actually it was really good and she got her fries and jell-o (which she spit out) in a cute shrimp boat.
We walked around Pier 39 and just loved taking in the sights and sounds.
On our walk by Boudin's sourdough bakery, we watched the bakers making different shapes (turtles, crabs, crocs, etc.) out of the dough and then the baker saw Bria and pointed to her bow and then showed her what she had made:
Afterward, we walked around and Bria wanted to see the mermaids. She remembered them from our last visit and insisted to see them again. Now, what mother would deny her child the excitement of throwing money into the mermaid fountain? Especially when it is in Ghirardelli Square? So, after going through and getting our free piece of peanut butter filled chocolate square we sat and hung out and enjoyed the surprisingly warm evening.
When Gramma came out of the chocolate store with her goodies, Bria whisked her away to the fountain with the mermaids in it.
Last we gave her a hand full of pennies to throw in and she chucked them all in at the same time and then held out her hand and said, "More pennies!" This time I tried to explain to her that she should throw them in one at time. She wasn't as excited about that prospect. But, she decided to give it a try. (The video turned out a lot darker than I thought, but you get the point.)

Hanging out with Sof:

Dan was sick of posing for pictures all day long, so I had my little brother, Tyler, stand underneath the sign. The first time he wasn't paying attention, but this time he smiled for the camera. Since the rest of our group was taking pictures, we had to get one last shot before we left for the night. The girls did great and I can't wait until our next San Francisco trip!

I was informed that this would be our Christmas picture. We will see if Dan gets his way.

  4. Kristen,
This was so fun to read. I LOVE San Francisco like you don't even know. We used to go there every summer, and I just couldn't contain my happiness for the place--especially the street vendors selling sterling silver jewelry! :) Thanks for sharing your fun trip, and for making me want to hop on the next plane out of Utah and go to San Fran...wait, maybe that's a bad thing!
